On Saturday 19th August we are running a Celebration of Stone at Aldborough. Dr Rose Ferraby and Dr David Paton will be running stone demonstrations showing different masonry and lettering skills and tools. We will be exploring the stones used on the site and where they were quarried.
There will be free tours of the site running all day. These will explore the museum gardens and explain aspects of the Roman town. And there will be a particular focus on stone in the archaeological site: the quarry, masonry, architectural fragments and mosaics.
We will be based at the Aldborough Roman Town museum, and entry is the usual English Heritage ticket price (EH members free). For more details see http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/aldborough-roman-site/
